Graduates of the programme will be fully equipped with skills that are in tune with modern trends in the library profession. In line with the University’s visions and mission, the training is geared towards producing professional librarians that are self-reliant, self-sustaining and innovative. The Department of Library and Information Science is based on academic structures of three (3) years and four (4) years for DE and UTME respectively.
Brief History of UniversityLibraryBrief History of University Library Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina was established in September 2006 then as KATSINA STATE UNIVERSITY with an initial intake of a little over 500 students at its temporary site within Campus of Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic. It was renamed UMARU MUSA YAR’ADUA UNIVERSITY before its official commissioning on 9 March, 2009. In 2009, it was commissioned by late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua at its present permanent site consisting of a Senate Building, three Faculties (Natural and Applied Sciences, Humanities, and Education) as well as a Central Library. A Law Library and a Medical Library branches have also been established, while a cozy Staff/Postgraduate Unit in the main building has also been set up.
